PESHAWAR: To protect children from serious health complications, the provincial health department has restricted the use of mercury dental fillings for children below 15-years-of-age across the province. This was directed in a notification issued by the director general of K-P Health Services. The ban will come into immediate effect. The notification stated that all health workers in the K-P dentistry unit were requested to not use mercury dental fillings for young children to safeguard their health. The action has been taken in the backdrop of a research-based campaign launched by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) throughout the country to ban or restrict the use of mercury dental amalgam.
