All the resources will be given to ensure the provision of quality healthcare and education for the people, said Punjab Chief Secretary Akbar Durrani on Thursday.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting reviewing the roadmaps of health, education, clean drinking water and solid waste management at the Civil Secretariat.

It is imperative to achieve the fixed targets within the stipulated period of time to provide people with quality education and healthcare, he expressed adding that health, education and the provision of clean drinking water are the government’s priorities.

A lot of work has been done in the health sector but the condition of hospitals is still deplorable. He expressed his shock at witnessing the dilapidated buildings at Jinnah Hospital, Lady Willingdon Hospital and Punjab Dental Hospital.

He also directed the administrative secretaries to spend approximately 60 to 70% of the budget on repairing and maintaining the current buildings rather than spending money on entirely new projects.

“The progress of the social sector, especially the health and education roadmap, will be reviewed regularly and where necessary I am also available to give necessary guidelines. We have to work as a team,” he maintained.

UK Department for International Development (DFID) Managing Partner Micheal Barbar said that the Punjab Government has performed impressively in implementing the health and education roadmap.
