Mahira Khan or Ayesha Omar: Battle of the unconventional sari
This past weekend witnessed the second edition of Pakistan Film Festival in New York
KARACHI:
Some of Pakistan's biggest A-listers graced the red carpet this past weekend which witnessed the second edition of Pakistan Film Festival in New York.
As expected, most of them were dressed to impress but there were two stars in particular that caught my eye: namely Mahira Khan and Ayesha Omar.
For one of the events held over the weekend, Mahira chose to wear quite a funky sari. Sharing a picture of herself on the streets of the Big Apple, the Raees star can be seen rocking a Sana Safinaz ensemble.
At first glance, it just seems like a very out-there, printed sari but upon taking a closer look, one can notice that there's definitely more to it than what initially meets the eye. It's actually a pretty unconventional sari - without the traditional pleated petticoat. Instead, Mahira is wearing black laced pants.
With a mix of floral, geometrical and animal prints, the ensemble has surely made many heads turn. The vibrant colours go very well with their respective patterns and speak volumes. The blouse itself has beautiful floral embroidery and applique work which extends on to make for a strap.
The Bol actor accessorised with round sunnies, blue stilettos and simple aqua coloured earrings. She kept her makeup to a minimum with an orange lip and a touch of mascara, making for a perfect daytime look.
Bulbulay star Ayesha Omar was the other diva who made quite the impression on me. She too, opted for an atypical sari. While Ayesha's was a little less dramatic, it still managed to make an impact.
The actor shared a very similar picture of herself on her Instagram handle, clad in a white Shehla Chatoor number. The blue floral printed sari has the more in-your-face pants with a very visible pleated skirt nevertheless.
While the blouse is made of simple white lace, it still caught my attention due to the one sleeve and detailing around the neckline. The look was well put together as Ayesha teamed the sari with a white clutch, matching heels, sapphire earrings and a signature bold ring. Ayesha also went for minimal makeup with bronzed skin and nude lips.
For me, it was Mahira who stole the show. But who do you think pulled off the unconventional sari better?
