PTI leader Jahangir Tarin said the accountability court's verdict has debunked the ‘Mujhe kyun Nikala’ narrative of Nawaz Sharif.
The ousted prime minister has been saying that he was disqualified for no reason. Now Sharif should know that he has been ousted for being a “thief and money launderer”, Tareen said.
Another PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi called it a "historic victory for the people of Pakistan which should serve as a warning to all those who looted and plundered the nation’s money".
Other PTI leaders Asad Umar and Babar Awan welcomed the decision as “victory for the people of Pakistan” and “jail for Nawaz”.
Babar Awan, however, said Sharif has inflicted huge losses on the national kitty, so the fine should have been heavier and jail term longer.
On its official Twitter handle, the PTI said Nawaz would now go to Adiyala Jail.
Some PPP politicians said the PML-N was reaping what the Sharifs had sowed years ago.
Political analysts said the sentencing would deal a big blow to the PML-N and its politics.
Twitteratis also celebrated the judgment against the Sharifs, saying the looted money would be returned to Pakistan.
However, not everybody is happy with the accountability court verdict. Some Twitter users and politicians said on the micro-blogging site that 'selective accountability' would serve no purpose.
