LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) will provide community service and play a role in resolving the psychological issues being faced by society, said PU Vice Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Akhtar on Thursday.

He expressed these views while inaugurating the mental health services at the Centre for Clinical Psychology.

A large majority of people are not even aware of the mental health problems they are suffering from, the VC expressed. The administration will provide facilities to the centre in order to rehabilitate those suffering from various psychological traumas, he added.

The centre provides clinical services for the diagnosis and management of psychological disorders in children and adults. It also offers counselling, assessment, diagnostic and speech and language pathology services to citizens, said Centre for Clinical Psychology Director Dr Saima Dawood.

She added that the Living Institute for Slow Learners had been set up to provide special clinical and educational services for differently-abled children.

Earlier, the VC visited various sections of the department. Faculty members and students were also present at the occasion.

In addition to this, the Centre for Clinical Psychology is organising a two-day national conference on the “Impact of Global Challenges on Mental Well Being”. The inaugural ceremony will be held on Friday (today) at Al-Raazi Hall.
