Death toll reaches 15 as torrential rains lash Lahore

50 people have been injured in rain-related incidents in the past 48 hours

LAHORE: Death toll in Lahore over the past two days has risen to 15 with more than 50 people reportedly being injured in rain-related incidents.

At least 15 people have been killed while 50 others were injured in rain-related incidents including short circuits and roof collapses.

In Lahore's Jauhar Town, a man and his son were killed while his three-year old daughter was injured after their roof caved-in.

Heavy rain in Lahore and other parts of Punjab have brought life to a standstill.

Choked drains, broken roads and faulty wiring have led to enormous damage and loss of life and property, Express News reported.

Lahore storm claims four lives

On the second consecutive day, lanes, streets and roads were flooded with rain water while the administration struggled to settle the choked drains. Heavy equipment was in place to remove water from various places.

Incessant showers also led to power outages. According to reports, over 300 electric feeders tripped in Lahore alone. Citizens have reportedly faced traumatic losses in property as waters up to three feet pooled up in the houses.

The city administration has fixed a sinkhole that emerged at GPO Chowk in Lahore yesterday. Officers from Pakistan army assisted the administration to fill up the 20 feet deep and 40 feet wide hole.
