Army chief signs death warrants for 12 hardcore terrorists

Culprits include those who orchestrated Parachinar Imam Bargah blast, says ISPR

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday confirmed death sentences awarded to 12 hardcore terrorists, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The culprits were involved in killing civilians, security forces, as well as, armed forces.

Those given the capital punishment among those who orchestrated the attack on the Markazi Imam Bargah in Parachinar on March 31 last year in which 23 people were killed.

The terrorists were also involved in killing of 34 people including 26 civilians, eight armed forces and frontier constabulary personnel, as well as, injuring 133 others.

Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession with the convicts tried by special military courts.



Meanwhile, six others have been awarded life imprisonment with civilian Ehsan Ullah also being tried by special military court, however, he was found not guilty and has been acquitted in view of this.

On May 5 Gen Qamar confirmed death sentence for 11 hardcore terrorists.

Three other convicts were also awarded imprisonment. According to the military’s media wing, the terrorists were involved in “heinous offences related to terrorism, including attacks on law enforcement agencies and armed forces of Pakistan, Malakand University, and killing of innocent civilians including Imran Khan Mohmind, a member of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly.”

They were involved in killing of 60 persons including 36 civilians, 24 armed forces, frontier constabulary, police officials and injuring 142 others, the ISPR said, adding arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts.
