BHC allows Akbar Bugti's grandson Aali, NP's Nizamuddin to contest polls

Announces judgment reserved on 11 of 41 applications; bars nine candidates from contesting elections

QUETTA: Of the 41 applications of election candidates wherein verdict was reserved last week, the Balochistan High Court on Monday announced judgment on 11, allowing only Aali Bugti and National Party’s Nizamuddin to contest elections from their respective constituencies. The remaining nine candidates, including Pakistan Peoples Party Balochistan President Ali Madad Jattak, have been barred from contesting the general elections.

The BHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Nazir Langove, termed Aali Bugti eligible for contesting general elections and allowed him to run his political campaign from PB-10 Dera Bugti.



Aali was disqualified by the appellate tribunal last week. His opponent, former home minister Sarfraz Bugti, from PB-10 constituency had challenged his nomination papers alleging that Aali had not disclosed his assets while filing his nomination papers.

The appellant’s lawyers Behlol Kasi Advocate and Nusrat Baloch Advocate attended the hearing wherein the court announced its reserved judgment in favour of Aali and allowed him to contest elections from his native constituency.

The court also allowed NP’s Nizamuddin to contest general elections.

Meanwhile, the court did not announce the judgment reserved last week on the petition against the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf provincial chief Yar Muhammad Rind.

Rind and PPP chief Jattak’s nomination papers were rejected by the returning officers during the scrutiny process. Later, their pleas in the appellate tribunal were also rejected.

Justice Afghan and Justice Langove have also rejected the petition filed by Awami National Party’s Engineer Zamrak Achakzai against acceptance of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party’s National Assembly candidate Abdul Qahar Wadan.
