The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Monday demanded the removal of all incumbent governors for the conduct of free and fair polls in the country.

During a press conference, PTI Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry insisted on the change, specifically for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to Chaudhry, the governor of the province is still responsible for the management of the tribal belt. All transfers, postings and funding pertaining to the area are conducted by the governor in-charge. He reiterated that the KP governor is always changed as per norm. "We fail to understand what the interim prime minister and election commission are waiting for," he said.

The PTI spokesperson further said the son of Punjab's governor is contesting elections, and that the governor himself is involved in election campaigns and represents bar associations on behalf of Nawaz Sharif.

Chaudhry also stated that Mahmood Achakzai's brother is the governor of Balochistan and has not been changed.

PTI's spokesperson reiterated that KP and Fata's merger shall be completed, and that the party will try to hold provincial assembly elections from the area.

Shifting his focus to the PML-N, the party spokesperson alleged that a concerted effort was being made to make the elections controversial by Maryam, Nawaz and their supporters. "PML-N is targeting the judiciary, their anti-army statement by Nawaz has put us in the grey list of the FATF."

He urged that an internal probe should be initiated to investigate financial matters since Ishaq Dar repeatedly accuses Miftah Ismail. "They all are part of PML-N and therefore we hold Nawaz responsible for inflation."

"The transfer of powers is slow. Despite the flaws, we have faith in ECP to conduct peaceful elections. Gas and electricity entities are still under Sharif dynasty and they are exploiting them," he concluded.
