Sanju: Raw, real and relatable
Sanju shows the rise and fall of the Indian cinema and several aspects of Sanjay's life. Apart from focusing on the father-son bond between Sanjay and Sunil Dutt, the film also sheds light on the actor's relationship with his mother, Nargis Dutt.
In a throwback video from the 90s, Sanjay opens up about the tragic death of his beloved mother. He says, "When my mother died, I didn’t cry, I had no emotions. It was after two years when I was sitting with a group and a guy started playing a recording. I heard my mother’s voice advising me and telling me how much she loved me."
Sanjay continued that after hearing the recording, he broke down and cried for about five hours. "I took out everything that was inside me and was a changed man," he added.
Nargis passed away a few days prior to the release of Sanjay's debut film Rocky. The Mother India actor breathed her last in 1981 after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer. In an interview, Sunil revealed that a seat was left empty at the Rocky premiere for Nargis.
Nargis' recording that moved Sanjay to tears said, "More than anything Sanju, keep your humility and your character. Never show off. Always be humble and respect elders. It's the only thing that is going to take you far and give you strength."
