Former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed himself as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for premiership if his party is elected to power in the upcoming elections.

In an interview to a private news channel, the PML-N president stated that he had been chosen by the party supremo and brother Nawaz Sharif for the executive post. When asked about the possibility of a change in candidature if niece Maryam Nawaz manages to win in the upcoming polls, Shehbaz was adamant that he would still be the prime minister.

Facing Nisar: Maryam assures Qamar of full support

Speaking on the rift between Nawaz and party stalwart Chaudhry Nisar, the former chief executive reminisced that the two had remained friends for decades. “Nisar has always been a close aide of Nawaz. I wish their friendship had continued. It is unfortunate that they parted ways.”

On the issue of PML-N ticket, Shehbaz narrated that he had convinced Nawaz to award Nisar a PML-N ticket. “Although I was unaware if he would take it since he had not applied for the ticket nor had the parliamentary board considered him but I made a personal request to Nawaz who agreed with me,” he stated.

But before the ticket could be allotted, he added, there were some fiery statements which intensified tensions.
