The meeting was chaired by PU Vice Chancellor Niaz Ahmed. It was revealed that the varsity expects the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to give a grant of Rs2.637 billion, approximately 35% of the total budget.
To improve the university’s international ranking and their socio economic impact research, the syndicate also approved the establishment of a technology park.
Further, to encourage research activities, the university has allocated a grant of Rs150 million, while Rs70 million and Rs64 million have been set aside for overseas scholarships and for participating in national and international conferences, respectively.
PU forms body to probe student’s death
Differently-abled students will also be provided with free education and boarding facilities while students on sports scholarships will also be provided with education free-of-cost. The varsity will also continue to waive the tuition of Hafiz-e-Quran.
In order to facilitate students, Punjab University is providing a budget of Rs202 million for scholarships, student affairs and career counselling.
Moreover, HEC scholarships worth Rs97 million will also be provided to students. The varsity is also providing Rs190 million for hostel subsidies, Rs55 million for transport subsidies and Rs7 million for internet subsidies.
The total amount of subsidies on the aforementioned services has been increased from Rs166 million to Rs252 million, while a subsidy on electricity bills on teaching departments is also being provided. PU has allocated Rs285 million for development projects.
The syndicate directed the administration to fulfil all the legal requirements for the Punjab University Medical College.
