PESHAWAR: Caretaker Minister for Education, Social welfare and Religious Affairs, Dr Sara Safdar said that legislation made for the well being of senior citizens should be implemented to fully benefit them.

She was addressing a high-level meeting at the Social Welfare, Zakat and Ushr department on Wednesday.

Dr Safdar said that the department was playing a significant role, however, it needed to be further strengthened.

She went on to say that the senior citizen act was meant to benefit the elderly people, adding that data of all senior citizens across the province should be compiled so that the deserving ones could have access to the fruits of this act.

She proposed that there should be specific centres where senior citizens could pass their time, directing the concerned departments to propose names for provincial ombudsman at the earliest.
