Close to 1,000 police inspectors transferred

According to IGP’s directives, inspectors are transferred not only to other districts but different ranges

LAHORE: To trickle down the policy of the interim Punjab government to hold fair and free elections, the newly incumbent Inspector General Police Punjab Dr Syed Kaleem Imam issued orders of transfer of 965 inspectors of Punjab Police to different ranges.

For the purpose, Additional IG Establishment Punjab Azhar Hameed Khokhar issued a notification on Friday. The notification read that they considered “no political implications/interference” and no posting in the home district of domicile as conditions for transfers.

The inspectors were not only transferred to other districts, but also to different ranges.

Out of 965 inspectors, 221 inspectors from Lahore have been transferred to other regions in which 106 inspectors have been transferred to Gujranwala, four to the operations wing, 55 to Faisalabad, 53 to Rawalpindi, two to Sahiwal and one to Sargodha regions.

As many as 59 inspectors of Sheukhupura region have been transferred. Among 59 inspectors, 30 have been transferred to Sargodha, 28 to Sahiwal, and one has been transferred to Faisalabad.

Among 89 inspectors of Faisalabad, 39 have been transferred to Gujranwala and 50 have been transferred to Lahore. Among the 77 inspectors of the Sargodha region, 30 have been transferred to Sheikhupura while 47 inspectors have been sent to the Sahiwal region.

Among 162 inspectors of Gujranwala region, 32 have been transferred to Rawalpindi, 35 to Faisalabad and 95 to Lahore region. Among the 79 inspectors of the Rawalpindi region, 31 have been transferred to Gujranwala, 48 to Lahore.

Likewise, among 66 inspectors of Sahiwal region, 38 have been transferred to the Sheikhupura region, while 28 have been sent to the Sargodha region. Among 92 inspectors of Multan region, 48 have been transferred to DG Khan and 44 to Bahawalpur region. Among 72 inspectors of DG Khan region, 60 have been transferred to Multan and 12 to Bahawalpur.

Also, among 48 inspectors of Bahawalpur region, 19 have been transferred to DG Khan and 29 inspectors have been directed to report to Multan.

A few days earlier, the chief secretary and the IGP were transferred. Afterwards, some senior police officers were surrendered to the establishment division, while district police officers and regional police officers were transferred. During this overhaul, almost the whole chain of command of Lahore Police was also replaced.

As many as 221 inspectors transferred from Lahore Police included SHOs and in charge investigations of 29 police stations.

The inspectors from other branches of Lahore Police, such as the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell and Anti Organised Crime Cell, were also included in these transferred inspectors.
