Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday picked up and tossed mobile phone of a sessions judge after admonishing him for using the device during court hours.

The incident happened in Larkana, where Justice Nisar paid a surprise visit of lower courts to observe their proceedings. He also visited Chandka hospital in the Sindh city.

While visiting city court-III, Justice Nisar grabbed a sessions judge’s cellphone and flung it on his table. He then asked the judge of the cases he had heard since the morning.

The judge said he had heard three cases since morning. To this, the CJP shot back:  “How can we ensure provision of justice when judicial process is so slow?

“Where are Sindh and Pakistan going? … What are you doing for the cases of missing persons? … Wrap up these cases swiftly,” he added.

Separately, Justice Nisar met different members of the lawyer fraternity and clarified to them that he would not be harassed by their protests and strikes.

“The protests and strikes don’t scare me. I have left my seat and travelled to ensure that justice is dispensed. Even you can play a progressive role in that,” he told the lawyers.
