UoB, Planning Commission join hands to address water shortage

VC Iqbal tells delegation that there is a need to construct mini dams to overcome challenge

QUETTA: The Balochistan University in collaboration with the Planning Commission, Islamabad will start work on various educational and research-based activities particularly on the projects related to addressing the shortage of drinking water in the province, the university’s vice chancellor says.

“Shortage of drinking water in the province, particularly in Quetta, is worsening day by day. It needs immediate attention of the concerned authorities. There is a need to construct mini dams to overcome water crisis in the province,” said Prof Dr Javed Iqbal during a meeting with a delegation of the Planning Commission, headed by Dr Muhammad Faisal, in his chamber on Friday.

The vice chancellor welcomed the delegation and informed them about the educational and researched-based activities of the University of Balochistan.

He said new campuses of the Balochistan University were established in various remote areas of the province to make the achievement of higher education easy and new programmes, according to the needs of market, were also initiated.

The delegation was further briefed about the educational system in the province and programmes initiated to avert the challenges of drinking water shortage in the province.

The delegation praised the efforts of the Balochistan University and said, “The Balochistan University is moving towards transformation swiftly in this particular time period.”
