RAWALPINDI: New Rawalpindi Commissioner Capt (retd) Saif Najam took charge on Friday. His appointment follows a number of transferred and postings being made to make the process of the upcoming general elections more free, fair and transparent.

Deputy Commissioner Umer Jahangir had already replaced Talat Gondal. Umer was previously serving as DC Gujranwala.

Moreover, Rawalpindi RPO Wasaal Fakhar Sultan Raja and Rawalpindi CPO Afzal Ahmed Kosar among other police officers had stepped down from their positions a few days earlier.

SSP Investigation Amir Abdullah Niazi will perform the duties of CPO Rawalpindi until a new one is appointed. SSP Operation Muhammad bin Ashraf, who was part of the Interior Ministry during the Chaudhry Nisar-era, has now been appointed as the new chief traffic officer.
