KARACHI: Pakistan may not be participating in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, but the craze for the extravaganza is at an all-time high. Football fever is all the more visible in Lyari, a congested residential neighbourhood of Karachi which earned the moniker of ‘Mini Brazil’ due to its residents’ love for football.

The neighbourhood, which was once wrecked by gang war, wears a festive look as the residents, overwhelmingly ethnic Baloch, have installed large screens in different areas to enjoy the matches. The streets are festooned with flags of the countries participating in the mega sporting event and walls are splashed with colourful graffiti.
