Marri urges proper utilisation of resources

QUETTA  : Caretaker Chief Minister Allauddin Marri has stressed the need for proper utilisation of resources, saying, “In order to rid the province of poverty, we need to put all departments on the right track so as to generate more revenue.”

Marri was chairing a meeting in the provincial capital on Wednesday during which he was briefed by the Planning and Development Department (P&D) regarding the ongoing development schemes in the province.

Balochistan Chief Secretary Dr Akhtar Nazeer, the additional chief secretary P&D and other officials were also present at the meeting.

“Balochistan has a unique importance in the region due to its geographical location and natural resources, but we have to pay proper attention to all departments and revamp them so as to end poverty from the province,” said Marri while addressing the meeting.

The chief secretary informed the interim CM about the development schemes which are part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for 2018 and progress on the projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Marri directed the authorities concerned to complete the ongoing development projects on time so that people could take a sigh of relief.

He lamented the sorry state of health sector in Balochistan and expressed concern over the infant and maternal mortality rate in the province.

“Development schemes related to health department must be completed on a priority basis so that we could save lives in remote parts of Balochistan,” he said.

The interim CM stressed the need for paying more attention to the fisheries sector, saying that it could turn into a profitable sector. “Illegal fishing on Balochistan’s coastal belt must be halted as the mafia there is usurping the rights of local fishermen,” he said.

Marri expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation in the province. He said the province had been doing it best to hold peaceful elections with the available resources.a
