Governor's rule imposed in IoK

President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday approved the imposition of governor's rule in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of its alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reported Times of India.

Governor Narinder Nath Vohra will be presiding over the state for the fourth time.



PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation as chief minister to the governor on June 19. Shortly after, Governor Vohra forwarded a report pertaining to the imposition of governor's rule under Section 92 of the constitution of IoK.

"It has become untenable for the BJP to continue its alliance government in IoK, hence we are withdrawing," said BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.

Sources relayed the governor’s rule could be followed by the president’s rule that might delay the assembly election. However, this will require ratification by parliament.
