Most candidates pass first electoral hurdle

Rejected candidates can file appeals against RO’s decision with appellate tribunal

ISLAMABAD / RAWALPINDI: Returning officers on Tuesday completed the scrutiny process of nomination papers filed by the candidates to contest the upcoming general elections from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In the capital, there were three constituencies including NA-52, NA-53 and NA-54 of the federal capital.

NA-54 Returning Officer Abdul Ghafoor Kakar accepted nomination papers of 34 candidates while nomination papers of five candidates were rejected.

Similarly, NA-53 Returning Officer Muhammad Adnan rejected nomination papers of four candidates for submitting incomplete affidavits.

These candidates can file their appeals against rejection of nomination papers with the appellate tribunal.

In Rawalpindi, nomination papers of candidates of different political parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA) and Awami Muslim League (AML) were accepted on Tuesday.

The nomination papers of former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, PTI’s Ghulam Sarwar Khan, PML-N’s Engineer Qamarul Islam and independent candidate Col (retd) Ajmal Sabir were accepted from NA-59.

From NA-60, the nomination forms of AML President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi and MMA’s Raza Ahmed Shah were accepted.

Similarly, the nomination papers of 28 candidates including PML-N candidate Malik Abrar Ahmed, PTI's Amir Kiyani and Qasim Khan of PPP were accepted from NA-61.

ECP rejects 55 nomination papers in Balochistan

The returning officers have also accepted the nomination forms of PML-N candidate Barrister Danial Chaudhry, AML Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Sheikh Nadim Ahmed PPP from NA-62.

In the provincial assembly constituency, nomination papers filed for PP-10 by 29 candidates including Nisar, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Engineer Qamarul Islam, and Raja Kamran of PPP were accepted by the returning officers.

The nomination papers of PTI’s Haji Amjad, Qayyum Abbasi, PML-N’s Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal and 19 other candidates were accepted from PP-13.

The nomination papers of 32 candidates including PML-N’s Usama Chaudhry were accepted from PP-14.

The election officials accepted the nomination papers of some 27 candidates including PML-N's Malik Iftikhar Ahmed and Babu Sheryar Riaz of PTI from PP-15.

From PP-17, the nomination papers of a total of 32 candidates including PML-N leader Raja Hanif Advocate, PTI's Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Azhar Iqbal Satti were accepted.

The ROs in PP-18 have accepted the nomination papers of PML-N’s Ziaullah Shah, Malik Shakil Ahmed Awan, PTI's Ijaz Khan Jazzi and Babar Khan Jadoon of PPP in addition to nominations from 20 other candidates.

Chaudhry Umar Farooq's nomination papers have also been accepted by the concerned authority after scrutiny.

The nomination papers of PML-N candidate from PP-12 Faisal Qayyum Malik has also been accepted.

Malik will be contesting against Nisar from the constituency in the upcoming general elections.

The nomination papers of PML-N candidate Chaudhry Riaz were also accepted as were nomination papers of Chaudhry Muhammad Azeem from NA-58 while Raja Ali Asghar, Chaudhry Muhammad Ishtiaq, Chaudhry Ziafat Hussain, Raja Khurram Pervaiz Ashraf and Chaudhry Javed from PP-8.

The nomination forms of Raja Hameed Advocate, Faisal Bhatti, Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood and Chaudhry Sarfraz Khan were accepted from PP-9.
