ISLAMABAD: After almost two weeks since the caretaker governments have taken charge at the centre and in the four provinces, the majority of them have not met a legal requirement of declaring their assets.
Only the caretaker prime minister, Punjab chief minister and two caretaker ministers have filed the statement of assets with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Section 230 of the Elections Act, 2017 stipulates “caretakers must submit statements of their assets and liabilities, and those of their spouses and children within three days of taking oath”.
The legal requirement has to be met by the caretaker prime minister, chief ministers and their cabinet members.

The ECP official said the commission is likely to consider the matter today (Wednesday) and admonish those who have not declared their asset details.
Meanwhile, the caretaker prime minister in the assets statement submitted before the ECP declared that his family owns properties inside Pakistan and abroad.
He owns plots in Islamabad’s D-15 and G-14 sectors and Bahria Enclave and an apartment in the diplomatic enclave.
His wife, who is a foreign national, has properties in Singapore and London worth $714,286 and £272,850. They have investments and bank balances as well.
The caretaker Punjab chief minister in his statement declared the net worth of his assets at Rs20.48 million. These include a house in Lahore worth Rs7 million and shares worth Rs0.93 million in inherited property. He has a car with one million rupees and cash in four bank accounts.
Muhammad Azam Khan, the caretaker interior minister, owns two plots -- one in Regi Model Town in Peshawar and the other in the CBR housing scheme in Rawalpindi.
He declared their worth at Rs3 million and Rs3.5 million, respectively. His wife also owns a plot in Regi Model Town in Peshawar worth Rs3 million.
He has shares in Charsadda Sugar Mills, Premier Board Mills Mardan, Premier Sugar Mills Mardan. Interestingly, the declared total worth of those shares is less then Rs30,000.
Shamshad Akhtar, the caretaker minister for finance, has declared that she owns three properties in Islamabad and one in DHA Karachi.
