Kidnapped woman, child manage to reach police station

Police shifted the injured mother and son to hospital where the child passed away

KARACHI: A woman who was reportedly kidnapped along with her son a few weeks ago managed to reach the Gadap City police station on Tuesday.

S*, 45, was kidnapped under mysterious circumstances along with her three-year-old son from Marri Muhalla Sector 15 within the jurisdiction of the Shah Latif police station around 15 days ago.

The woman's husband registered a complaint with the police station on June 11. According to police officials, the complainant accused his neighbour, Shabbir, of kidnapping his wife and subjecting her to rape in the FIR No 372/18. The husband also claimed that the neighbour phoned him on June 4 to inform that he had kidnapped his wife. The neighbour also allegedly demanded Rs5,000 of the husband through easy paisa for the release of the woman and child.



According to the husband, he paid the neighbour the ransom he had demanded, however, the kidnapper did not release his family. Meanwhile, the police also failed to trace and rescue the kidnapped persons.

However, the woman somehow managed to reach the Gadap City police station with her son during the night between Sunday and Monday. She was injured and her son was unconscious. The police shifted both of them to a hospital where the child died while the woman was receiving treatment.

The husband alleged that the neighbour had tortured his son, which resulted in his death. However, police investigators doubted the husband's account. They are suspecting that the woman was not kidnapped and that she had left her house on her own will.



The woman's statement will be recorded before a magistrate, police officials said, adding that the case is being investigated from different angles.

Inspector-General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi has also taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the East DIG.
