Police finalise security plan for Eid holidays

Special police deployment will be made for places of worship

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have finalised a comprehensive plan to ensure foolproof security in the Federal Capital during Eidul-Fitr holidays.

According to the security plan, more than 1,600 policemen will safeguard Eid congregations, 975 mosques, 33 imambargahs, markets and picnic spots.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Najeebur Rehman Bugvi and Additional SP Islamabad Syed Mustafa Tanveer have devised an effective security plan for Eid holidays, under which police commandos and Pakistan Rangers will also be available for assistance of the police.

Police have been assigned to patrol various sectors to prevent anti-social activities during Eid holidays, besides patrolling in different sectors.



Special police deployment will be made for security of Faisal Mosque on Eid day, while walk-through gates and scanners will be installed for checking purpose.

Due to the crowds of people that gather to perform prayers on the morning of Eidul Fitr, Sub-Divisional Police Officers and SHOs will be responsible for the security at places of worship in their respective areas. Under the plan, police pickets will be set up at all important entry and exit point for checking of vehicles with special focus to stop frequent car lifting incidents.

The mobile patrols and squads of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will also remain present at prominent points during Eid congregations and Chand Raat. While, bomb disposal squads will react within the shortest possible time in case of any emergent situation.

The ITP has made a special deployment plan for Chand Raat following which all markets and shopping areas will be manned by traffic officials to regulate the traffic and ensure planned parking.

The SSP directed the police to remain on high alert and fully prepared to avert any untoward situation during the Eid holidays.

Murree traffic management

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has banned the entry of heavy vehicles, buses and young bikers in and aroub Muree to ensure the safety of the passengers and to facilitate the tourists heading to the hill station for Eid holidays.

According to City Police Officer, (CTO) Bilal Iftikhar, during Eidul Fitr days, a total of 46 junior wardens, 419 warden officers, 26 inspectors and seven DSPs would control the traffic flow at the hill station and facilitate the commuters and the visitors.



He said that as per traffic plan, the entry of heavy traffic would completely be banned in Murree from 8am to 12am in order to avoid traffic mess.

The motorists would be allowed to use Express Way, Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala (RMK) Road and GT Road while the Murree Mall Road would remain closed for all kind of vehicular traffic during Eid days. “No one will be allowed to park vehicles at GPO Chowk while five roads of the hill station including Fourth Road, Hall Road, Bank Road, Guldana Road and Imtiaz Shaheed Road will be used as one-way.
