Sindh Police finalise security arrangements for Eid

29,826 personnel will perform security duty during holidays

The police have finalised a contingency plan for the security arrangements on Eid. According to the plan, as many as 29,826 police personnel will perform security duty across Sindh to mitigate the risk of any possible act of terrorism and other subversive activity on the auspicious occasion.

The police personnel will be deployed at all the main Eid congregation places along with shopping centres, bazaars, markets, parks, beaches, important government and private buildings, offices, airports, railway stations and bus stands.

Directives have also been issued to the police to ensure that cars, motorcycles and other vehicles are parked at a distance from the congregation places.

These police personnel are in addition to police commandos who have been deployed at sensitive areas in the city. The Rangers and Special Branch of the Sindh police are also closely coordinating the security measures.

‘Patrolling police should exhibit valour’

Intelligence agencies have warned of possible acts of terrorism during the Eid days and have asked the authorities to take strict measures to avoid any untoward incident during Eid holidays.


A spokesman for the Sindh police said on Tuesday that the contingency plan was presented to the Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khowaja. "The process of the clearance and sweeping should be done before the Eidul Fitr prayers at all the main Eid congregation places, masajids and imambargahs," the IG directed the police officials while reviewing the contingency plan.

According to a report prepared by the police, of the 29,826 officers who have been deployed to perform security duties in Sindh, over 16,150 officers will perform duties in Karachi.

As many as 1,652 Eid congregations will be held in the West Zone, for which 5,262 police officials will be deployed. In South Zone, 2,588 officials will provide security to 857 congregations. There will be 1,367 Eid congregations in East Zone for which 5,336 officials will be deputed.

According to the report, a total of 16,640 police personnel will perform security duties at all the ranges of the Sindh police, while the a total of 3,918 Eid congregations will be held in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana and Sukkur.

The spokesman said the IG reviewed the contingency plan for Karachi and other police ranges and also directed that police personnel in plain clothes be present at public places and around places of worship. IG Khowaja also issued directives to strengthen patrolling, picketing and reconnaissance.
