Says role of interim government is to facilitate ECP in holding free, fair elections

LAHORE: Acting Chief Minister Punjab Professor Hassan Askari while rejecting the criticism on him by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for supporting the plausible delay in upcoming general elections, has said that had the ruling party bothered to read that article they wouldn’t have had such a misconception.

Alluding to another allegation on him of being biased, CM Punjab said that he has written over 5000 articles in past forty year and that was besides his books and research papers.

He said that if someone bothers to research they would have known that he had criticized every government.

He talking to media representatives out Allama Iqbal Mausoleum also termed ‘presence of aliens’ as nothing more than a political slogan.

He said that political parties construct my narratives to woo their voters and supporters.

Similarly the revelation of presence of any sort of aliens in Pakistan Political system is a political narrative to win more votes.

He said that his government will prove his critics wrong through his actions.

He said that this government would provide a level playing field for every political party.

He said that the basic role of the interim government was to facilitate ECP in holding free and fair elections.

He said that their government would work in the framework provided by ECP for holding elections.

He said that his government’s second priority would be to ensure law and order in the province.

He said that neither he had any political agenda before nor he will have any political agenda in future.

He said that he belongs to media and academia and that is where he will return after elections.

He said that only necessary changes would be brought to civil bureaucracy.

He said that purpose for any reshuffling in bureaucracy would only be made to hold free and fair elections otherwise unnecessary reshuffling would not be done.

He said that also made it clear that he would keep a small cabinet. He said that his cabinet would be non political and will comprise of professionals and experts.

To another question, he said the role of district administration is very vital in the conduct of elections and it is responsibility of the district administration to provide equal opportunities to all political parties.
