PESHAWAR: At least two police investigators and a civilian were martyred while two police officers were injured when a roadside bomb targeted their vehicle in Lower Dir on Thursday.

Sources said a squad of police investigators, heading to investigate the killing of a village defence council member when their vehicle was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the roadside in the Maidan area of Lower Dir.

As a result of the explosion, SHO Bakhat Munir and Constable Irfan were martyred in the attack. A civilian identified as Fazal Hussain was also martyred.

Constable Hazrat Said and Constable Asad Iqbal suffered injuries.

Earlier on Wednesday, village defence council member Sarfaraz, a resident of Lamotai village in Sori Pao, Lal Qila Tehsil of Maidan, had been killed by unidentified assailants, sources added.

His family said that attack was a targeted assassination but ruled out any personal enmity as the motivation for the fatal attack.
