Speaking during a meeting with local traders, Malik urged policymakers to focus on swift construction of more dams in the country in order to cope with the growing water crisis.

He pointed out that though Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had taken a suo motu notice, but the matter needed government’s urgent attention for its complete resolution.
Reports suggest that since independence Pakistan has constructed 155 dams due to which it can store water for just 30 days. In comparison, India has built 5,102 dams and its storage capacity is for 170 days.
“Owing to a lack of reservoirs, a large quantity of water is being wasted every year,” he added.
