Power outages: Mob attacks Awan’s office in Sialkot

An angry mob, protesting against power cuts, attacked and damaged the local camp office of federal Minister for Information Firdous Ashiq Awan in Sialkot, police said on Friday.


The incident occurred in the Lalazar Colony near Hunter Pura in the limits of the Civil Lines police station.

The office secretary, Malik Muhammad Imtiaz, said that a complaint had been filed against 40 to 50 people who attacked the camp office with clubs, sticks and batons, damaging the office equipment and premises.

He stated that a man namely Qadeer was leading the mob. The SHO of the Civil Lines police station, Inspector Mian Tauseef, said that mob, comprising workers of a surgical instrument manufacturing unit, was protesting against power blackouts.

He said that the rally had started from Haji Pura and passed a number of city streets before reaching Hunter Pura. He said that the mob also chanted slogans against the PML-N in front of the party’s local office at the Paris Road.

No case was registered in this regard as yet.
