ISLAMABAD: A gang involved in looting those people at gunpoint and withdrawing their money from banks has been busted, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The police official said that SSP-Operations Najeebur Rehman Bugvi had tasked SP Zubair Ahmed Sheikh to arrest of those involved in armed robberies.

Subsequently, a team was formed under the supervision of Industrial Area ASP and included Sabzi Mandi Police SHO Asjad Mehmud, ASIs Rasheed Ahmed, Adeel, Head Constables Fakhar and Constable Khalid.

The team managed to apprehend three people involved in robberies.

The spokespersons said that the police tracked the robbers and staked out at one bank where the robbers planned to a hit. As soon as the robbers tried to loot a citizen coming out of the bank with money, they were caught by police officers.

The suspected armed robbers were identified as Rizwan, Haq Nawaz and Saleem. Police said that they had recovered cash, jewellery and weapons from their possession.

During a preliminary investigation, officials claimed that the suspects had confessed to robbing people in different localities of the twin cities. Moreover, they also confessed to having committed similar crimes in Multan. The suspects have previously served jail terms. Further investigations are underway.
