KARACHI:

In a bid to solve the power crisis, 18 companies have been given licences to generate power through alternative energy are expected to start producing 1,440 megawatts (MW) of electricity from 2012 said Secretary Environment Sindh, Mir Husain Ali.

Addressing industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry on Thursday evening, Ali said that the companies that have been allotted land in Thatta District to generate electricity of 80 MW each through wind turbine have been issued notices to complete their project by 2012 and start generation, otherwise the allotment of their land will be cancelled.

He said that Environment Protection Agency (EPA) would not be stringent with the industrialists but the compliance of law should not be ignored. He said copies of the notices will be issued to the industrialists and to Kati so that the association could mediate in the case.
