ISLAMABAD: The 12-day-old body of a Chinese engineer was found in the country’s embassy in Islamabad on Monday.

Emergency services shifted the body to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital for examination. Police sources say the engineer, who has not been named, was 28 or 29 years of age and had come to Pakistan in May.

The Chinese engineer was residing on the embassy’s premises and worked for a Chinese company which was closed for renovation.

Security officials say the engineer’s room was not checked earlier and officials from the embassy checked it after noticing a foul smell. Investigators say the Chinese national appears to have died of natural causes as he suffered from blood pressure-related problems.

In February, in a shocking incident of target killing a Chinese national, working for a Karachi-based private shipping firm, was shot dead in broad daylight in an upscale neighbourhood of the city.

The deadly shooting took place near Zamzama Park in the Neelum Colony area around 2:52pm. The place where the incident took place is about half a kilometre away from Clifton police station.

“Two Chinese nationals had left their office around 1:30pm for lunch at a restaurant in Block-2, Clifton,” read a press statement issued by the office of Zone South deputy inspector general (DIG).

“After having lunch they moved towards Neelum Colony opposite Zamzama Park for purchasing vegetables and fruits where one of them was shot.”
