HYDERABAD: An SHO implicated in the custodial murder of a 20-year-old man, Sajjad Jokhio, in Shaheed Benazirabad district was arrested on Saturday in Mastung, Balochistan. The SHO, Ghulam Sarwar Zardari, had allegedly detained Sajjad after a court hearing on May 11.

Sajjad's body was found in a morgue at Peoples Medical University Hospital a day after he was disappeared. The family's protests against his alleged killing prompted the Sindh High Court to take notice of the incident after which, Nawabshah DIG Ahmed Yar Chohan constituted a team to arrest SHO Zardari who had fled the town.

Shaheed Benazirabad SSP Sajid Ameer Sadozai confirmed the SHO's arrest to the media. He explained that SHO Zardari was arrested by the Balochistan police and a police team from his district had been sent to take him into their custody.

In the meantime, the family continued its protest outside the Nawabshah Press Club for the third week. Mashooq Jokhio, Sajjad's younger brother, and other relatives complained that only one of the three policemen involved in the murder had been arrested so far. They alleged that ASI Ali Bux Magsi and Head Constable Ali Raza Gorchani were also involved in Sajjad's killing and they were still at large.

The family has been blaming the policemen for detaining Sajjad outside the court and later, shooting him dead.
