PESHAWAR: Police arrested on Sunday main accused in the 17-year-old girl’s stripping case in a raid in Chamkani area on the outskirts of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital.

Addressing a news conference, SP City Kukab said that the accused, Muazhar Hussain had escaped after striping the girl in public in the Kachi Mohalla area under the jurisdiction of Hashtnagri police station due to a longstanding feud with the girl’s family on May 30.

“The accused escaped after the incident after which police started raids to arrest him and raids were carried out in Mardan, Hasanabdal and other parts of the country in order to arrest him, but every effort failed. After this police in plain clothes was assigned the task to locate him and they got a clue that the accused was hiding in Chamkani area on the outskirts of Peshawar on which a party was sent to arrest him,” said the SP city while speaking to reporters.

The victim’s mother had said Hussain overpowered her daughter and her on the way home near an imambargah. She said Hussain then proceeded to strip her daughter, adding that the suspect had fled after locals rushed to their rescue.

CCPO Qazi Jamil had taken notice of the outburst on social media by directing police to arrest the accused, who is a rikshaw driver by profession, at the earliest.
