Police directed to nab absconding suspect

A 17-year-old Peshawar girl was allegedly stripped by her Kachi Mohalla neighbour on May 30 'as part' of a longstanding feud.


The incident was highlighted after reports of the episode gained traction on social media. Shakila, the mother of the girl, said she had approached Hashnagri police to file a complaint against one Zafar after he quarelled with her nephew.

The woman said suspect Mazhar Hussain overpowered both, her daughter and her on the way home near an imambargah. She said Hussain then proceeded to strip her daughter.

Shakila said the suspect had fled after locals rushed to their rescue. An FIR of the incident has been registered. Taking notice of the incident, CCPO Qazi Jamil has ordered the City SP to swiftly nab the suspect.

Peshawar Nazim Asim Khan called on the kin of the victim after becoming cognisant of the incident and assured the family of full cooperation on behalf of authorities. Local rights activists also expressed concern over the incident, blaming it on "police incompetence".

On November 4, 2017, four men facing charges of parading a girl naked in Ghara Matt village of Dera Ismail Khan confessed to their crime before a court.

However, four other suspects in the case denied the charges. They added that the others had confessed under duress. The men were  earlier arrested in connection with the episode. One suspect remains at large. Police took notice of the incident post social media censure.
