A mix of romance, comedy, drama and action make for a perfect Bollywood film. However, it's usually the punches and powerful fight sequences that get the crowd sitting on the edge of their seats -  some wanting to be the hero on screen. Every Bollywood fan has - at least once - imagined themselves as the good guy or girl (because yay, feminism!) fighting all the villains and emerging victorious. But not many realise the amount of rigourous training that goes into performing these scenes.

While many productions resort to similar looking stuntmen or stuntwomen to film actions sequences, some actors have taken it upon themselves to perform the deed. Compiled from Filmfare, here are seven Bollywood actors who are famous for performing their own stunts.

1. Akshay Kumar

This one is, no doubt, the first name that would pop up in anyone's mind. Known to be a fitness fanatic, Akshay is trained in martial arts and holds a black belt in Taekwondo. In his 27-year-long career, the actor has always chosen to do his stunts and refused to use a body double.

2. Amitabh Bachchan

Now he wasn't called the angry, young man for no reason. Amitabh was one of the most iconic action heroes of Bollywood in 1970s. He usually performed the action sequences himself and was severely injured while filming a scene for 1983's Coolie. He was also hospitalised for the same.

3. Priyanka Chopra

Breaking stereotypes attached to women in action films, Priyanka took up the task of performing her own stunts. The actor did a tremendous job playing an Olympic boxer Mary Kom, in the film of the same name and Jai Gangajal. The 35-year-old actor later signed an American TV series titled Quantico which included a lot of action as well.

4. Shah Rukh Khan

The King of Romance broke his lover boy image when he did films such as Chennai Express, Raees and Don. Shah Rukh sure loves to try new things and keeps innovating with his style while making sure that it's done with charm. He signed action films so that his fans could see an interesting change and see him in a different avatar.

5. Dharmendra

Veteran Bollywood actor, Dharmendra is also one who has often executed his own action sequences as he had many such action-packed films under his name. For the 1978 film Azaad, Dharmendra even filmed a fighting scene with a tiger as effects such as CGI and VFX did not exist during that era.

6. Katrina Kaif

The 34-year-old actor also proved her mettle in combat when she starred in films such as Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai. Her breathtaking stunts and fierce avatar shocked fans who were, later, eager to see more of Katrina in such roles.

7. Salman Khan

This one is a no-brainer. With films such as Wanted, Sultan, Kick, Dabangg and Jai Ho, the actor has impressed crowds with his power-packed stunts. The 52-year-old went a step further when he fought actual wolves in a scene from Tiger Zinda Hai. With his upcoming film, Race 3, Salman fans are excited to watch him deliver yet another earth-shattering performance.
