ISLAMABAD: The outgoing interior minister on his last day in the office inaugurated the police service centre in Sector F-6 on Thursday afternoon.

Ahsan Iqbal had broken ground of the site on December 19, 2017, and it was scheduled to be completed by November 2018.

The service centre is a facility which had brought all police-related services under one roof except filing of FIRs and some other issues that would remain with the precincts.

Currently, the service centre is offering facilities of issuance of police character verification certificate; vehicle documents verification; reporting of missing or lost documents; issuance of learner’s driving permit and renewal of driving licence. It also offers foreigners’ registration, complaint registration and general police verification.

Earlier, citizens had to visit respective police stations and SSP office for these things. While one service centre is located in F-6, in front of Super Market, the other is being established at the police lines.

“Islamabad police is emerging as a model police force in the country,” Iqbal remarked at the opening of the service centre.

To a question, Iqbal said the country had made progress in various fields over the past five years. “Pakistan today is much better than it was in 2013. We have overcome the challenge of militancy and terrorism,” he said, adding while the fight against terror had been won to a large extent, a lot still needed to be done to defeat extremism in the country.

“The May 6 attack on me was also a result of this hatred. We have to work for an inclusive Pakistan as envisaged by the Quaid. The bullet which is still inside me will keep reminding me that we have to end hatred and promote compassion and tolerance in society,” he said.
