The National Assembly and the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Balochistan will stand dissolved at midnight after completing their constitutional term.
Provincial assemblies of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) assemblies finished their tenures on May 28.

As the incumbent government vacates office, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah announced Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk as caretaker chief executive.
On the other hand, a deadlock for the interim chief minister of Punjab continues between the provincial government and the opposition. A day after reaching consensus on Nasir Mehmood Khan Khosa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took withdrew his name. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has refused to budge.

In K-P, the ruling party also withdrew its nomination of Manzoor Afridi as caretaker chief minister after receiving backlash. Meanwhile, the government and opposition in Sindh and Balochistan have failed to reach consensus on a candidate to head the interim setup.
