PESHAWAR: Just days after he was picked to take over as caretaker chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the name of Manzoor Afridi has been dropped by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf after “objections were raised by an opposition party”.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and the opposition leader will meet today to deliberate on three shortlisted names for the interim chief minister, according to provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai.

Speaking to the media after a meeting of PTI’s parliamentary board at the Speaker House late Monday night, Yousafzai said his party has withdrawn the name of Afridi and that the party chairman has endorsed the decision. Speaker Asad Qaiser, Shah Farman and Atif Khan were in attendance.
According to Yousafzai, Manzoor Afridi’s name was dropped by his party because he had become controversial after an opposition party levelled serious allegations against him. “It’s not the PTI, but the opposition that created the controversy,” he claimed.
