ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned residents of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to prepare for a heatwave which is expected to sweep through the region this week with temperatures expected to touch and even cross 40 degrees Celsius.
Karachi hit by heatwave as temperature reaches 44˚C
According to the Met Office, temperatures had already reached 40 degree Celsius in Rawalpindi on Friday while Islamabad achieved that on Sunday. Temperatures in the coming week are expected to fluctuate between 38 to 40 degrees centigrade in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, dust-storms with gusty winds and light rain and thunderstorm are expected.
Jacobabad, Benazirabad endure hottest day of the year
The high temperatures in the twin cities are causing discomfort and uneasiness for the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, especially during the holy month of Ramazan.
In Rawalpindi division, Jhelum is expected to face the hottest temperatures, rising to 44 degrees Celsius. Chakwal is expected to remain relatively cooler with highs expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius. The hill-station of Murree too will see temperatures rise as high as 27 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, many areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are continuously facing power outages, which are compounding their difficulties.
