LAHORE: Animals at the Lahore Zoo will soon enjoy a much-needed break from relentless heat this summer as the zoo administration is planning to install improvised mist systems in all open cages offering delightful light drizzle to its inhabitants.

“This is the first of its kind experiment in Pakistan,” Zoo Director Hassan Ali Sukhera told Express News on Sunday.

The locally made shower system will not only help keep the temperature down in cages but also provide animals some fun this summer, he added.

Sukhera said installation of a mist system available in market would have cost a small fortune to zoo.

“But, we bought plastic pipes, nozzles and other necessary equipment ourselves and saved quite a lot of money,” he said, adding that the complete fitting cost only 7 to 8 thousand rupees per enclosure.

The system has initially been installed at the enclosure of Llama -- domesticated South American camelid – as an experiment. However, it will now be fixed at all open cages following its successful test.
