Sea breeze in coastal city unexpectedly suspended, PMD says

KARACHI: The sea breeze in the coastal city of Karachi on Saturday unexpectedly suspended with the temperature reaching a high of 39˚ Celsius indicative that the weather will remain both hot and dry.

The lowest temperature recorded on Saturday was 28.5˚C while the hot western and southern breeze began to blow in the city as the sea breeze was suspended, causing the temperature to rise.

Humidity levels in the morning were recorded at 59%, which  gradually receded during the day. Wind speeds were recorded at 38 kilometres per hour.

The Pakistan meteorological department has predicted that the weather will remain dry and hot on May 27 with the temperature likely to range between 38˚C and 40˚C.



Back on May 21 over 60 people died due to the heatwave in the city, Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi said while quoting relatives of the deceased.

Edhi said that the number of bodies in their mortuaries in Korangi area has tripled, while in Sohrab Goth, the flow has doubled since Saturday – the day the heatwave hit the metropolis.

He told The Express Tribune that more than 160 bodies have been reported at the two mortuaries, with the relatives of 60 claiming heatstroke to be the cause of death.
