Government arrests 30 more shopkeepers, slaps Rs110,000 fine

QUETTA: Following directions of Quetta Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Farrukh Atique, Quetta assistant commissioners Saniya Safi and Babrak Khan, and other officials continued conducting the crackdown against shopkeepers on the second consecutive day, arresting 30 shopkeepers selling edibles on high prices.

The Quetta deputy commissioner issued orders to the district administration to launch operation against shopkeepers violating the government’s price control list in the holy month of Ramazan.



The crackdown was conducted in Satellite Town, Nawan Killi, Marriabad, Sariab Road and other towns of Quetta and 30 shopkeepers involved in selling expiry edibles to the citizens and violating government price control list were arrested.

At least eight more shops have been sealed for selling expired edibles and fined Rs110,000. Thirty shopkeepers were arrested and shifted to the respective police stations.

“Since long, we have been requesting citizens to lodge complaints against shopkeepers found selling expired edibles and those not following government’s price control list,” said Quetta DC Atique, adding that the “profitable mafia” won’t be allowed to endanger public health by selling expired eatable items.
