Dengue threat: Nullah Leh undergoes cleaning op

The banks of Nullah Leh were previously infested by dengue and other water borne diseases

RAWALPINDI: Residents of Rawalpindi can heave a collective sigh of relief after district officials on Friday declared that a cleanliness operation of Nullah Leh is near completion to protect the population living along its banks can be protected from dengue and other vector-borne diseases. Chairing a meeting to review anti-dengue arrangements, Deputy District Health Officer Dr Zeeshan said that garbage is being disposed of on daily basis while huge containers have also been placed near the massive storm drain. Dr Zeeshan said that surveillance of the border areas of the federal capital has been completed while a special focus is being given to areas located adjacent to Leh as garbage thrown into the open drain is a major cause of dengue to spread. He said special anti-dengue teams are being deputed in 15 union councils of the city located along the banks of Leh.
