ISLAMABAD: In a bid to provide the residents of the capital with foodstuff at affordable rates during Ramazan, the mayor on Friday inaugurated a ‘Sasta Bazaar’ in Sector G-7.

Set up by the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC), Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz claimed that the market will provide edible items in large quantities and at concessional rates.

While inaugurating the market, Aziz directed the concerned departments to ensure the provision of quality edible items including fresh fruits and vegetables in these bazaars during the holy month of Ramazan.

He further directed the concerned officers to ensure the presence of relevant staff at the bazaars so that complaints of consumers could be addressed on the spot. He demanded that officials maintain strict monitoring and constant vigilance to ensure that residents can draw maximum benefits from these bazaars.

Aziz further directed to take consolidated steps to ensure the provision of quality edible items at concessional rates to the residents at the bazaars.

He said that strict action would be taken against those elements involved in overcharging and misbehaving with consumers.

The mayor further directed IMC officials to ensure that the approved rate list is displayed at stalls of the bazaars.

Chairmen of different union councils including Naeem Ali Gujar, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Raja Waheedul-Hassan, Chaudhry Allahditta, Chaudhry Munir Ashraf and Syed Zaheer Shah and other local elected representatives, senior officers of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the IMC were also present.

Rawalpindi Sasta Bazaar

Separately, Rawalpindi Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sara Hayat on Friday directed the district administration officers to ensure the presence of the staff concerned and availability of quality food items on the stalls at the Ramazan Sasta Bazaars in the garrison city.

During a surprise visit to the Chor Chowk Ramazan Sasta Bazaar, she inspected attendance of the staff and took notice of the veterinary assistant’s absence.

She also inspected the quality of food items being sold at different stalls and directed the authorities to ensure availability of quality food items in the bazaar

Hayat further said that officials should ensure the availability of essential commodities in the open market as per the official rate list issued by the district administration.

Shopkeepers were directed to display the price list at prominent places to facilitate customers.
