Seeking Assistance: PAAPAM calls to restore EDB

Hyundai, Kia Motors, Volkswagen and Renault entering the market marks a crucial time for the industry

LAHORE: There is no institution that now exists to work meticulously with the auto industry after dissolution of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), said a spokesperson for the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) on Thursday. In a statement, the official said the industry, which has investments exceeding Rs370 billion and supports 2.5 million households, is seeking help in ensuring its survival. He was of the view that with new players like Hyundai, Kia Motors, Volkswagen and Renault entering the market it was a crucial time for the industry and there was a need for a board like the EDB. “The EDB has played a critical role in the development of the auto industry in Pakistan, and in Paapam’s view the EDB has always kept its focus on strengthening the engineering industrial base in Pakistan first and foremost.”
