ISLAMABAD: The condition of sanitation is deplorable in the Sector I-11/4 fruit and vegetable market, representatives of traders said on Friday urging CDA to deploy sanitation staff.

The newly elected president and secretary general of wholesale commission agents Babu Saleem and Tahir Ayub said that they were facing problems from Capital Development Authority (CDA) in lease renewals as the civic body has made this process very complicated.

They were talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) which had come to market to felicitate the newly elected office bearers of Anjuman-e-Wholesale Fruit Commission Agents.

ICCI President Amir Waheed said the wholesale fruit market was supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to twin cities, K-P and AJK and was also exporting fresh produce to Afghanistan and Central Asia.

He stressed that CDA and government should focus on better development of wholesale fruit market.

He said Market Committee domain was limited to wholesale fruit market, but traders and industrialists of the whole city were receiving notices for licenses fee which was not justified. He said the license fee dispute between CDA and Market Committee was in the Islamabad High Court and called upon ICT Chief Commissioner to withdraw notices issued for license fee till the court decision in the matter.
