According to the sources, books for ninth grade Islamic Studies for Muslim students and Ethics for Non-Muslim students could not be distributed because the books are currently undergoing a revision process by the Muttahida Ulema Council of Punjab.
Around Rs160 million was allocated for the distribution of books during the current academic year. This is up from the Rs140 million allocated last year.
Sources further said that the contract for publishing the books was awarded to four private publishers including the Punjab Text Book Board, National Book Foundation, and the Sindh Text Board.
