LAHORE: In a unique instance of protest, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker announced to quit the party due to a delay and subsequent divergence of a Pakistan International Airlines’ flight.

Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) MNA Shahabuddin Khan, disgruntled after his flight from Paris was diverted to Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Airport instead of Islamabad on Saturday, chided his party for bad governance and failing to deliver.

“We will continue facing such misery and insult. I, an MNA belonging to the ruling party, am ashamed to reveal my connection to the PML-N.”

The plane, which was diverted due to weather conditions, also encountered a bird striking its engine as it landed.

Irritated by the delay, the passengers staged a protest inside the plane. They reproached PML-N lawmaker for his party’s “incompetence in dealing with such matters.”

Promising to leave the PML-N, Khan said he will soon announce his own party.
