Veteran politician Javed Hashmi has rejoined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ahead of the general elections scheduled for later this year.

Speaking at a corner meeting of the PML-N in his native Multan on Saturday, the former senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that he had accepted the offer of returning to the PML-N.

Hashmi left PML-N in 2011 after differences with the party leadership and joined Imran Khan's PTI.

Army should not indulge in politics: Javed Hashmi

"Nawaz Sharif was my leader and will remain my leader. I stood with Nawaz Sharif in the most testing of times," Hashmi told the participants of the corner meeting.

Hashmi added that he had decided to join the rebellion against forces which did not respect the sanctity of the vote.

Earlier, the politician had advised the army’s public relations arm to “avoid involving itself in civil affairs”.

“Institutions should not be turned into political parties,” Hashmi said while talking to senior journalists at his residence.
